The Japanese Red Cross Kochi Hospital in Kochi features two OLED luminaires in the endoscopic examination room of gastroenterology in the new ward, which is scheduled to open May 6th, 2019. The luminaires each have 10 Brite 3 neutral white OLED panels installed as downlights.
Employees using the room have the option to select LED or OLED lighting. The purpose in giving them the choice is to help identify which light source is more effective in reducing fatigue while working. It can also be determined if the light source has an impact, positive or negative, on how the patient feels.
Miwa Electric Medical Co., Ltd is the subsidiary company of Air Water Safety Service Inc, one of the leading companies in Japan that supplies facilities with electricity, air conditioners and medical gases. They also offer operating rooms in hospitals special fixtures for floor, wall and ceiling applications. Miwa developed this unique and easy-to-clean surface luminaire specifically for the usage in medical applications. They will continue to seek additional opportunities for utilizing OLED lighting in hospitals.
