OLEDs have been applied in automotive taillamp applications since 2016, and as they overcome their biggest obstacles—including reliability and cost—they are ready for a larger rollout.
Taillight applications are hindered by LEDs’ intrinsic property. To enable surface illumination in rear light, stop light, and turn indicators, optical structures must be installed for light scattering. An inherent problem remains: the use of a point light source to homogeneously illuminate a defined area. Therefore, it’s time for another revolution. Enter OLEDs.
